Why we invested
Forerunner's conviction in Outsmart starts with the team. CEO and Cofounder Jorge Mazal spent over five years leading product at Duolingo — most recently as Chief Product Officer — where he helped build one of the most effective modern approaches to learning at scale. Beyond the credentials, his personal story gives him an unusual depth of conviction: navigating higher education without resources or connections, he earned a Harvard/Wharton dual degree and understands firsthand where the system breaks. That founder-market fit, combined with deep operational excellence, is what made Outsmart stand out.
